Gaining momentum

In the same way that taking time out to think about the key issues can prove vital to controlling and thriving on high-pressure situations, so the calm-before-the-storm approach works when planning a swift assault on a key opportunity.

You will often find that you are presented with situations in life where a window of opportunity presents itself. However, they can be transient in their nature, and this means that if you don’t act fast, you run the risk of losing out altogether. This process of pouncing with a sense of urgency needs a moment of calm before you mobilise the effort and build momentum very quickly.

Rushing into a situation without thinking about it can lead to disaster. Just because the opportunity may be fleeting, doesn’t mean you have to be impetuous. Such an approach smacks of recklessness. If your mission fails, you’ll at least have wasted a lot of time and effort. At worst, you could wreck your chances of achieving your vision and blow a hole in your reputation to boot.

When confronted with a situation where a serious opportunity exists, it’s important to assess its viability. This requires a moment of calm reflection, where you can weigh up the pros and cons, as well as plan your strategy to grab the opportunity as quickly as possible. Then you can press ahead and put your plan into action with speed and precision, confident in the knowledge that the extra effort is worth it as you are pursuing an opportunity that really is too good to miss out on.
