Release the potential of your team

Although your route to success will be quicker if you enlist the right help from the right people, simply building your support group or team is not enough. To get the most out of your team – or in a work setting, maximise their productivity – and keep them on board, you need to communicate with them and manage them effectively to make sure they’re motivated and content. Only then will you get their full commitment and be able to use their abilities to the full.

Empowering your people is likely to be one of the biggest challenges you’ll face in pursuit of your vision. But taking time to get to know and understand your team and then thinking carefully about how best to recognise and reward them will pay dividends.

One of the big hurdles to overcome can be trusting your fate in their hands. As a highly focused and motivated individual you may well view others as not being as capable as you are. But the reality is that a key way of motivating people and teams to operate with maximum impact is to give them responsibility and make them accountable for their actions.

When individuals feel that they have ownership of a task, then there is a greater likelihood of it being successfully delivered. To effectively empower others, you need to dedicate time and energy to coaching them. So you must avoid neglecting the personal development and training of others as you strive to meet the busy day-to-day challenges of realising your vision.

You must create space for coaching all your people, ensuring they have the skills and motivation to perform the tasks that are needed to succeed. In this role, you must support others to achieve their personal goals, remembering these must be totally aligned to your mission
